M-I-C-K-E-Y M-O-U-S-E Mickey Mouse ...

We are starting to plan a family trip to Disney World for next Spring. I want to go early enough that it's not too hot out, but late enough that it is going to be warm. We're looking at renting a house with a pool, and I want to be able to use it. I also hate being chilled and have no intentions on walking around Disney in socks and sweaters.

I would LOVE some information from those of you who have been and those who are regulars!!

1) Where do you stay? We're looking at renting a house near the park, but am also open to looking at other options!

2) When should we go, with my climate wishes in mind?

3) What other things are must's for our trip?

We will have a 20ish month old, almost 6 year old and almost 9 year old at the time.

  1. Check the library. There are actually whole books written about this!! I had seen an author on a show, and it was nuts all the tips that they have, would be worth reading. Sounds like can really save your sanity, not including money to get some insider's info.

  2. oh how fun! my husband and i went last year.
we went at the end of September, and it was perfect... the weather was still very warm and summery and there were 0 lines! we walked onto all the rides without having to wait. it's almost worth taking your kids when school is in session just to avoid all the lines, since i hear they can be pretty brutal in the summer (ie. 1 - 2+ hours per ride and in the blazing sun). Check out the book The Unofficial Guide to Disneyland.. it has great tips, and insider stuff. etc.

  3. I think September/October would be a great time, unfortunatly this year I think the baby would just be too young.

    Next time :)

  4. How exciting -

We went in May and the weather was nice...not too hot, but warm. We stayed at a timeshare about 2 miles away from Disney. When we went Brady was almost 3 (we went a week before his birthday). We liked staying off the Disney property because it allowed us to break up the week with days at the hotel - playing in the pool and having downtime.

In some ways it is good to stay on the Disney property though becayse you have the transportation to and from the parks. It really depends what you are looking for.

I also suggest looking into visiting Univeral while you are there. They did (and I think still do) have a 7 day pass that costs less than what it would cost for two individual days. Plus depending on how into rides the 9 year old is, Universal may be a good fit - even if you just go for a day or two and spend the rest of your time at Disney.

  6. We have gone every year for the last 12 years and I would recommend staying at a Walt Disney resort. If you stay on property, the transportation to and from the parks is free and so is the transportation to and from the airport. That way you don't have to rent a car. If you want a kitchen, Disney has "home away from home" resorts. I would think early May is a good time to go. If you go in January or February it may be too cold to go swimming and if you go in March or April it will be very busy because of Easter and spring break. I would also order the free Disney World planning dvd which you can order from www.disneyworld.ca.
